"HELPING HANDS"-4 POOR PEOPLE:-

Apart from academics, students of Rajiv Gandhi University of Knowledge Technologies (RGUKT), IIIT Nuzvid, have excelled in running a charitable activity to help the poor.
“The novel idea to help the poor was that of E. Shiva, a third year engineering student (E-III). Students collected and deposited Rs.11 lakh so far and are donating the amount to about 200 poor and physically challenged students every month,” said IIIT Director Ibrahim Khan, who is also the advisory committee chairman of the organisation.http://www.thehindu.com/todays-paper/tp-in-school/helping-hands-aids-poor-students/article4000682.ece

An 11-member executive committee and about 1,000 volunteers were involved in the charity activity. A chairman, treasurer, discipline committee, executive committee, rules and regulations committee and advisory committee supervises the activities of ‘IIIT Helping Hands’, said a faculty and executive committee member, A. Brahma Swamy.
Helping Hands began in 2008, with Rs.10,000 donated by some students and faculty members. Students K. Manikanta, E. Shiva and faculty B. Venkateswarlu verify the records regularly.
On every second Thursday of the month, volunteers go around the classes and interested students donate Re.1 to Rs.5.
Now a ‘Drop Box’ system has been introduced on the campus. Seven boxes have been arranged at the boys and girls hostels, labs and at the lecture halls, said B. Girija and Y. Anusha, who were also the executive committee members.
IIIT Helping Hands gives Rs.200 each to about 200 poor and physically handicapped students on the campus.
The organisation arranged for eight washermen for the clothes of physically challenged students to be washed, said students P. Uday Kumar and G. Durga Lakshmi.
“As per Rules and Regulations Committee norms, only students who secure a good percentage in all subjects can join in the charity. The IIIT management just monitors the activities and advises them in need. Helping Hands will inculcate the habit of helping others among the youth,”
