World's largest dinosaur digitally recreated:-

In a real-life Jurassic park move, one of the world's largest dinosaurs has been digitally reconstructed by scientists, allowing it to take its first steps in over 94 million years.

The dinosaur weighed 80 tonnes and computer simulation shows that it would have reached just over 2 m/s - about 5 mph, researchers said. 

The University of Manchester team, working with scientists in Argentina, were able to laser scan a 40 metre-long skeleton of the vast Cretaceous Argentinosaurus dinosaur. 

Then using an advanced computer modelling technique involving the equivalent of 30,000 desktop computers they recreated its walking and running movements and tested its locomotion ability tested for the very first time.

"Argentinosaurus is the biggest animal that ever walked on the surface of the Earth and understanding how it did this will tell us a lot about the maximum performance of the vertebrate musculoskeletal system,".

The study was published in the journal PLOS ONE.

Vodafone India-Make You Feel Better

Vodafone slashes 2G, 3G prices by 80% across India:-

In a Diwali bonanza to its customers, Vodafone India today said it has slashed data rates by up to 80% across the country, with effect from November 1.

In June, the company had reduced the price from 10 paisa per 10kb to 2 paisa per 10kb in Karnataka, UP West and Madhya Pradesh and Chhattisgarh circles and it has now extended the same rates to all its circles from November 1.

"When a mobile internet customer roams anywhere in India on Vodafone, he/she is charged like home rates for mobile internet," it said.


Vodafone said the new pay-as-you-go rates, which are the same for both 2G and 3G, are the lowest in market.

The company is also building content partnerships, simplifying pricing, educating retailers and offering choice to customer on the basis their interests and consumption patterns, it said.

Petrol price was today cut by Rs 1.15 a litre, the second reduction in rates in a month, while diesel prices were raised by 50 paise per litre.

In a parallel move, diesel price was hiked by 50 paise, excluding VAT, in line with the January decision of the government allowing oil companies freedom to raise prices in small doses every month to wipe out mounting losses.

The diesel price in Delhi has been hiked by 56 paise to Rs 53.10 per litre while it would cost Rs 60.08 in Mumbai from tomorrow as compared to Rs 59.46 currently.

DEL POTRO RETAINS BASEL TITLE; FEDERER'S LONDON QUALIFICATION BID CONTINUES:-

Juan Martin del Potro picked up his fourth title at an ATP World Tour 500 tournament this year after he retained the Swiss Indoors Basel crown on Sunday.

Top seed del Potro beat third seed and five-time former champion Roger Federer 7-6(3), 2-6, 6-4 in a repeat of last year’s final. The high-quality championship match lasted two hours and 21 minutes.

“It was similar in intensity, rallies and the emotion of the fans [to the 2012 final],” said del Potro. “The fans were cheering for him a lot, but they also respected me. They made a fantastic atmosphere. I think we played the best match of the tournament today.”

The 25-year-old del Potro has also won ATP World Tour 500 tournament titles in 2013 at the ABN AMRO World Tennis Tournament in Rotterdam (d. Benneteau), the Citi Open in Washington (d. Isner) and the Rakuten Japan Open Tennis Championships in Tokyo (d. Raonic).

Del Potro has already qualified for the Barclays ATP World Tour Finals, to be held at The O2 in London from 4-11 November. 

“I have good memories of playing in London,” said del Potro. “I reached the final [in 2009]. All the players are fighting for the same challenge and it makes it a special tournament. I am confident in myself and my game. I know how to beat them, but I realise that I need to keep playing well.”

But increasingly, as the remarkable rate of migration to cities changes the very character of urban citizenship, political leaders have begun to acknowledge the hard work and resourcefulness of those who uproot themselves and move. BSE Sensex rises above 21,000 for first time in three years:-

The S&P BSE benchmark Sensex crossed 21,000-mark after a gap of 35 months on hectic buying mainly in realty, auto, banking, consumer durables and refinery sectors on the back of persistent foreign capital inflows.

Shares of PSU banks gained after the Ministry of Finance after trading hours on Wednesday said that the Government of India (GoI) has approved infusion of a total of Rs.14,000 crore in 20 public sector banks (PSBs) during this fiscal through preferential allotment of equity shares.

Major gainers in banking sectors were State Bank of India (SBI) (1.09 pct), Punjab National Bank (1.27 pct), Bank of Baroda (1.67 pct), Bank of India (0.7 pct) and Union Bank of India (1.5 pct).

The Sensex resumed slightly lower at 20,766.05 before bouncing back to cross 21,000-mark immediately to 21,039.42 before quoting at 20,972.64 (1030hrs), showing a sharp gain of 204.76 points or 0.99 per cent from its last close.

The Sensex was last quoted at 21,075.71 on November 8, 2010, during the intra-day trade.

The NSE 50-share Nifty also rose by 60 points or 0.97 per cent to 6,238.35 (1030hrs).

Foreign institutional investors (FIIs) bought shares worth a net Rs.644.80 crore yesterday as per provisional data from the stock exchanges.

Asian markets were trading lower in their early trade as China's money-market rates continued to surge and after US shares retreated from a record amid disappointing company earnings forecasts.

India ranks 134th globally in ease of doing business:-

India ranked a lowly 134 in the ease of doing business index, but implemented the most number of business regulatory reforms in 2012-13 in the South Asian region.

A new World Bank Group released Tuesday also finds that India has made an improvement of 0.5 percentage points in what is called "the distance to frontier" measure with a range between 0 and 100, with 100 representing the best performance or the frontier.

India's "distance to frontier" in 2013 was 52.7 as against 52.3 in 2012.

The report also finds that six of eight economies in South Asia completed 11 reforms simplifying the process of starting a business, strengthening access to credit, or easing the process for paying taxes.

Since 2005, all economies in the region have implemented business regulatory reforms in the areas measured by Doing Business.

Together, the eight economies recorded 75 reforms. India implemented the most number of reforms in the region with 17 reforms during this period, followed by Sri Lanka with 16.

But Sri Lanka claims the region's highest spot in the global ease of doing business ranking, at 85 out of 189 economies.

Among the BRICS economies - Brazil, the Russian Federation, India, China, and South Africa - Russia made the most progress.

Singapore tops the global ranking on the ease of doing business. Joining it on the list of the top 10 economies with the most business-friendly regulations are Hong Kong, China; New Zealand; the US; Denmark; Malaysia; South Korea; Georgia; Norway; and Britain.

India's market rally is not sustainable:-

The recent stock market rally and a gush of dollars by foreign institutional investors in the Indian market have surprised quite a few investors and traders alike. Also, not all FIIs are convinced about the rally. Tai Hui, managing director, chief market strategist - Asia, JP Morgan AMC, told ET in an interview that the recent rally may soon run out of steam and a correction could follow. 

The Sensex and Nifty are at a three-year high. Do you think the current rally is sustainable? And where do you see the Sensex headed by the end of the year or during the first quarter of 2014? 

Tai Hui: Part of the market rally in India is due to a delay in the US Fed tapering and the attractive valuations over here. However, the macroeconomic climate is yet to make a convincing turnaround. We are cautious on India as the market looks for more clarity on the political and economic fronts. Thus, the current rally may not be sustainable, and market will correct in the next three to six months, or even earlier. I do not want to predict any level for the index though.

After the arrest of top Indian Mujahideen (IM) operatives Yasin Bhatakal and Asadullah Akhtar in August, Indian security agencies said Tahseen Akhtar alias Monu was leading the terror outfit. But now, it seems now security agencies will have to look out for one more dreaded IM terrorist - the fugitive known as Dr Shahnawaz. Sources in the Anti-Terrorism Squad told indiatoday.in that Dr Shahnawaz might have entered India to take over IM operations from Tahseen Akhtar. Xolo to launch a 4G enabled smartphone in Nov:-

NEW DELHI: Indian smartphone maker Xolo is gearing up to launch its first 4G LTE-enabled smartphone in the country.

According to a report on GSMArena, the device, dubbed LT900, will be formally launched in the first week of November.

Though not much is known about the device's specs, it is rumoured to have a 4.3-inch HD display along abd run on a 1.5GHz QualcommSnapdragon S4 processor.

The phone will have an 8MP rear camera with dual LED flash.

Xolo is also expected to launch an Android-powered dual core budget smartphone called A500L soon. The smartphone has already appeared on the company's website.

As per the listing, Xolo A500L sports a 4 inch touchscreen with 480x800 pixels resolution. It runs on a 1.3 GHz Mediatek MT6572 dual core processor and is powered by Android Jelly Bean 4.2 operating system. There's 4GB internal memory, 512MB RAM, 32GB expandable memory and 1500mAh battery. There's a 3MP rear camera and a VGA camera in front.

Xolo's domestic rival Micromax is also expected to launch a 4G-enabled smartphone in December.
